Model: Kendra

I was approached by Ashley, another Style for Dignity model, to model for the show. Without knowing much about the event, I was in because I thought it would be an awesome experience and something fun and different to do.

Then, I found out it was for a charity event for domestic violence, I was even more interested. My mom is/was a victim of domestic violence. When I was younger, her ex-boyfriend at the time would hit her. He even threw her down the stairs. At one point, the abuse got so bad he threw her down and hit her face on a porcelain bathroom sink. The bathroom incident was so bad, my mom had to go to the hospital and get stitches in her eyebrow.

In a way, I always knew what was going on, but even though she always had bruises on her, she would always make excuses. So the abuse went on for a long time. I knew what he did to her but she would not admit it. I tried to get the truth out of her, but she wouldn't tell me.

One day, after they broke up, my mom finally admitted the truth. She finally told me what he would do to her during their 5 year relationship. Even though I knew she was lying all along, it was very painful to hear her finally admit the truth.

I'm proud to be a part of the Style for Dignity Fashion Show and want to model for this event to show my support for my mom and all the other women who are afraid to speak up and get help. I think this will be an incredible event to be a part of.
